The Life of A Showgirl has led to many questions even by the strongest fans. Is she becoming less creative? Why is she moving away from kid friendly music? Why does every song sound like another? And many other criticism.
Swifts newest album The Life of A Showgirl only has 12 songs, but still has some of the biggest hate of any album in her career.
People are starting to wonder if Swift can even still write songs in her poetic ways. Swift is known for some of the most poetic lyrics in the music world with lyrics like "Sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I'll never see"- But Daddy I Love him, and "You talked me under the table/ Talking rings and talking cradles/ I wish I could un-recall/ How we almost had it all"- loml. Both of these are just a small glimpes into Swifts lyrcis in her last album The Tourtered Poets Deparment. Many of her fans even joked they would need dictionaries to listen to her songs. This however was not the case with Swifts last album.
In The Life of A Showgirl we get lyrics like "I can make deals with the devil because my ***** bigger"- Father Figure, and "Did you girlboss too close to the sun" - CANCELLED!. Which have led many to wonder if she is "dumbing down" her lyics for her fiancé Travis Kelce or if she is just losing her writing ability after almost 19 years of producing music. Lots are taking "Did you girlboss too close to the sun" as "cringy" and her worst lyrics ever.
Why does every song sound like someone elses with no credit? Is also a big question many different fans and critics are asking about The Life of A Showgirl. This question has been asked about every single song on The Life of A Showgirl. Most common comparions are "Life of a Showgirl (Ft. Sabrina Carpenter)" and "Cool" by the Jonas Brothers. Another well known comparions is Swifts song "Wood" being compared to "I want you
back" by the Jackson 5. To the left is a link to the comparison of "Life of a Showgirl" and "Cool".
To the right is 6 of the most popular songs on the album and their comparisons: Life of a Showgirl, Actually Romantic, Ruin the Friendship, Wood, The Fait of Ophelia.
Most of the outrage from Swifts recent songs sounding similar to other artists songs without credit comes from when Oliva Rodrigo was forced to give credit on her song "Deja Vu" before Swift decided to sue. Rodrigo song "Deja Vu" sounding to similar to Swifts song "Cruel Summer" led to Swift contacting Rodrigo to get credit for that song. Before then Rodrigo was a life long fan of Swift and she has made this publicly known several times, which led to shock and outrage once Swift asked this of Rodrigo. Fans and Critics are saying Swift should be given the same treatment as she gave Rodrigo.
Swift got most of her audience, and life longer followers while her fans were young. Swift has always stayed mostly kid friendly, besides adding a few cuss words in her songs as she got older there was never anything outragous. Which led to mass shock when she released her song Wood. It has been speculated by Swifts fans and critics that her song "Wood" is about her and her fiancé Travis Kelces intimate relationship.
Swifts haters are feding into these criticisms even more, because most of Swifts fans consider her the best lyricist of our time. Her critics however argue how can that be true with lyrics like "They want that yacht life under chopper blades" and "a fat *** with a baby face"- Wi$h Li$t on The Life of A Showgirl.
Even though most, Swift fans or not, are giving this album a lot of hate some are saying it is to soon to have an opinion. Some life long Swift fans are saying it takes more than one listen to form an opinion, and they need more time to figure out their opinions on the album. Some on redit are saying "I've listened to it once so far and enjoyed it. I need about 20 more run-throughs and a couple weeks to form a real opinion," and "It’s really fascinating how people’s opinions are completely polarized on this album, even on this sub. I never love Taylor’s albums on first listen, they always have to grow on me, so I don’t have a strong opinion yet. On first listen, I like it better than TTPD and about equal to Midnights".
The Life of A Showgirl is tearing apart even the strongest of Taylor Swift fans. Is it to simple? Does it use to many other songs without credit? Has it been long enought to even tell any opinon? Swift has so many fans and critics, that their are so many different ideas and opinions on everything Swift does.
