Kacey Musgraves: From Texas Startup To Country Pop Superstar
With a voice that transcends genre while simultaneously maintaining a classic country sound, country superstar Kacey Musgraves found success by letting her music speak for itself.
Musgraves quickly entered the country music scene in 2012 with the release of "Merry Go Round," her breakthrough debut single which gave a cynical perspective on small-town life. She followed up the single with "Same Trailer Different Park," her impressive debut album.
"Merry Go Round" and "Same Trailer Different Park" earned Musgraves Grammy Awards for Best Country Song and Best Country Album in 2014. "Follow Your Arrow," another single off her debut, found similar success, winning Song of the Year at the 2014 CMA Awards.
Musgraves returned in 2015 with "Pageant Material," her second major label album. It may have showcased the same twangy sound and lyrics about small town life and staying true to yourself, but it did cement Musgraves' place in the world of country music.
In late 2016, Musgraves embraced the holiday spirit and released "A Very Kacey Christmas," a fun seasonal album filled with a retro-pop sound reminiscent of the 1960s. She then embarked on a Christmas tour, playing holiday classics and fan-favorite songs from her previous albums in venues like the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.
After a two-year hiatus, Musgraves came back in the spring of 2018 with "Golden Hour," an album masterfully blending her folky country style with acoustic pop sensibilities. The album appeared in publications like Rolling Stone, Billboard and The Guardian on their "Best Albums of 2018 So Far" lists.
Musgraves just finished touring with Harry Styles in August, but on Oct. 13 she plans to get back on the road on her own headlining world tour, playing the Ryman Auditroium in Nashville from Feb. 27 to March 2. However, before she embarks on her "Oh, What a World: Tour," Musgraves will perform at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville Tuesday night.
Musgraves is known for her retro-chic style, and she knows how rock every outfit she wears. Take a look at some of our favorite Musgraves looks over the years below:
