Get To Know The Reklaws

It’s not every day that a brother and sister from Cambridge, Ontario find themselves writing with some of Nashville’s top songwriters to become Canada’s “dynamic country duo.” The Reklaws, Stu and Jenna Walker, are doing just that, and coming out with music that draws an international fan base. NStyle Country had the opportunity to ask them a few questions about music, fashion, and how they developed their style.

Growing up on Yeehaw Adventure Farm was quite an experience for Stu and Jenna. Some of the craziness included dressing up for Halloween the entire month of October, and performing at the halftime shows of pig races, which is where the Reklaws all started. This is also where they developed their love for country music, they picked up a banjo, memorized Jonny Cash songs, and found their own voices.

The Reklaws recently released a music video for their single, “Hometown Kids,” which was all shot in their home town of Cambridge, ON. The first half of the video takes the audience on a tour of the city, and shows us some of the “hotspots” that Cambridge has to offer. The second half of the video was shot in a fixer-upper that their dad was about to renovate, so they did not hold back and had “an absolute banger of a house party,” which definitely reminds us all of crazy nights with our home-town friends and family.

Coming from a small town, they were instantly drawn to Nashville’s big-little city feel, its southern hospitality, and of course, it’s barbeque! They love going out to all the music venues in Nashville that are constantly featuring new artists. Another Nashville classic that the two love is Tribe Kelley. This label, started by Brittney Kelley, wife of Florida Georgia Line’s Brian Kelley, has the simple and bohemian aesthetic that both Stu and Jenna love,

Being a duo, The Reklaws have two outfits to consider when they are coming up with a look. They never are intentional in their matching, but the color black is an absolute staple in their wardrobes, so they tend to look like a cohesive unit. They are looking forward to getting their outfits lines up for festival season come summer 2018.

Jenna’s go-to performing outfit is all black everything. Black ripped jeans, a faded black band tee, and either converse, or knee high boots. When asked what style trend she could never get on board with, Jenna answered with, “crocs. That is all,” so it’s safe to say she is big on shoes… that aren’t rubber. Stu keeps it simple in a black or white t-shirt, preferably longer in length, distressed camo pants, or stretchy black jeans, and John Varvatos boots.

All in all, these two definitely get our NStyle Country fashionista stamp of approval. We love their trendy style, and that they can make the basics look so good. The music video for their new single, “Long Live The Night,” is coming our very soon, so make sure to look out for that! Give them some love on social media, @thereklaws.
