Carrie Underwood taken to Court!

Let’s get real for a second… most of us have loved Carrie Underwood since she stepped onto the American Idol stage back in 2005. Since then, she has continued to steal our hearts with her southern charm, talent, and style.

Two Canadian songwriters are claiming Underwood and her co-writers behind the hit song , “Something in the Water,” stole the song from them. They allegedly pitched the song to Carrie's producer Mark Bright in 2014 for her to record but never heard back. Carrie then released "Something in the Water," the next year.

The songwriters, Ron McNeil and Georgia Lyons, are arguing that, "the hook on the infringing work, as released on the album, is structurally and lyrically identical, and substantially similar melodically to plaintiffs' composition of the same title," according to the Lawsuit. Underwood and Bright, along with her two co-writers, their publishing companies and Sony Music Nashville are all defendants in the suit.

It doesn't seem like Carrie or her team are too worried. A spokeswomen for Underwood commented on the matter in a statement made Tuesday...

"We are aware that a lawsuit was filed regarding the authorship of 'Something in the Water. We want all of Carrie’s fans, and everyone, to know that 'Something in the Water' was written by Brett James, Chris DeStefano and Carrie Underwood. This is a deeply personal song regarding Carrie’s faith and she is saddened that anyone would attempt to challenge that for financial gain. Neither Carrie nor any of her co-writers ever received or heard the plaintiffs’ song. We fully expect that Carrie, Brett and Chris will be vindicated in the courts."
