Powerful Singer-Songwriter's Carly Pearce & Ashley McBryde Take Home Historical Grammy Win
Making history at the 65th annual Grammy Awards, Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde take home the award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for their duet “Never Wanted To Be That Girl.” Monumental moments included a first Grammy win for both Pearce and McBryde, as well as being the first women to ever win this award.
Pearce’s first Grammy nomination turned into her first Grammy win, so she was “not expecting this,” she said in her acceptance speech. McBrdye was also nominated at this year's Grammys for Best Country Album, “Lindieville.”
Through performing this song many times, these two have created a special friendship. McBryde says performing this has “been so nice for our friendship, we did it together.”
This honest heartbreak track quickly made its way up the charts to number one quickly after its release and is still being streamed today.
These women are paving the way for women everywhere in the industry. Women continue to break industry standards year after year, and these women added to the breakdown of industry stereotypes. Pearce told reporters backstage that she is excited to “continue to show girls coming up behind us that you can write your truth and you can do everything that you want in this business.”
